Open Water Scuba Diver

Get your scuba diving certification with the SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course – one of the the world’s most popular and widely recognised scuba course. To enroll in a SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course, or Junior Open Water Scuba Diver course, you must be 12 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW... The open water course costs $425.00; this includes your open water pack (which has a book, and a log book), gear hire (excluding mask and snorkel), air fills, an instructor and the SDI certification upon completion. Can’t make the weekend? That’s ok- Personalised Courses are also available at your convenience for a price of $750.00.
Before starting your course, you have a bit of homework to do. Start your SDI Open Water Scuba Diver ELearning course and master all the important academic information. You can complete this phase through self-study, at your own pace, in the convenience of your home or office. All Elearning courses work on mobile and tablet devices too. We will also give you a Diver Medical form, this is for you to fill out. If you answer YES to any of the questions you will need to contact the shop to get a medical form for your doctor to fill out. You are also required to purchase a mask and snorkel if you currently don’t already have one. Please visit the shop at 41 Addison st Shellharbour to get correctly fitted for a scuba mask.
The course goes over 3 days- usually over two consecutive weekends. It starts bright and early on the first day at 9:30 finishing at approximately 4pm but this can change depending on class sizes.
Day One consists of going over the basics of scuba diving with your Dive Instructor as well as safety issues and procedures and getting all scuba gear ready. After you get to jump in the pool to try out scuba! Once you feel comfortable we begin to go through some basic skills that you need to be able to do comfortably and confidently. You will learn how to put your gear together and how to do your buddy checks with your class mates, you get to learn buoyancy control and how to enter the water with all your gear on, you also learn what to do in certain situations.
On day two you get to go in the ocean for a dive! The first dive is usually an orientation dive, just to get you used to being in the real thing. We get to show you the beautiful underwater world world! Depending on the conditions you will dive at either The Gravel loader or Bushrangers Bay located at Bass point. On your second dive, we can begin to go through the skills completed previously in the pool.
Day three, your final day, you get to go in the ocean again for dives 3 and 4. On the first dive of the day you finish off the scuba skills , when all your skills have been completed and you are now a certified Open Water Diver!
When you have finished your course, you are more than welcome to join us on our Saturday and Sunday morning dives and once you have built up your confidence and experience you can try our Saturday and Sunday advanced afternoon dives this is usually a DPV dive or a twin dive! For those under the age of 18 yrs, a parent / guardian’s authority is required prior to any water activities. The minimum age for certification is 12 yrs. This age must be reached prior to completion of the course.
