Before the Course
Study and Medical
You have a bit of home study to do before the start date of your course. Complete this phase through self-study, at your own pace, with the SDI Open Water Scuba Diver eLearning. We supply you with a unique code to access the site and you are ready to learn. All eLearning courses work on mobile and tablet devices.
There is also a dive medical that we will issue to you. If you answer NO to all questions bring this completed medical with you on the first day, if you answered YES to one or more questions you will need to contact the shop to get a more comprehensive medical form for your doctor to fill out after a more thorough examination.
Equipment and Pool
Today consists of group discussions of all of the online study you have completed, learning more about hand signals and underwater communication and fitting you out with the correct sized scuba equipment that you will be using for the duration of the course. After a lunch break you get to jump in the pool for your first scuba experience. Here you will focus on learning equipment assembly and function, surface water skills and underwater skills. These skills will be your foundation for the open water dives in the ocean.
Ocean Dives 1 and 2
Today will be your first ocean diving. The first dive is usually an orientation dive where we only focus on 4 key areas, equalisation, buoyancy, buddy teams and FUN. On your second dive, we begin to introduce some of the skills completed previously in the pool.
Ocean Dives 3 and 4
Your final day. The first dive of the day we aim to finish off all the remaining scuba skills, so when we get to dive 4 in the afternoon you can focus on having a fun enjoyable dive, feeling confident in what you have learnt and taking the time to really engage with and observe the ocean environment.
When you have finished your course, you are more than welcome to join us on our Saturday and Sunday morning dives. Or join us on one of our exotic overseas scuba diving holidays, an experience not to be missed.
