Shore Dive

A popular and safe shore dive on the NSW coastline The Gutter is located on the north side of Bass Point. Easily recognised by it's V shape, The Gutter lays north-south. Entry & exits can be done from either side with most favouring the west side. The entry area is generally in 4 - 5 m that runs to a sandy area at 12 - 13 m, from here the ocean floor drops to 24m.
This site is diveable in most conditions and suitable for novice to experienced providing great diving day or night.
Further out are other 'false' gutters and profuse Sponge Gardens. Every direction is full of life and fantastic things to see like ridges, valleys, sand flats, other gutters and kelp gardens, most filled with sponges full of colour and supporting fish life. Blue Devil fish, Turtles, Weedy Sea Dragons, sharks, (PJ's, wobbies, Banjo & Angel) Grouper, Octopus, Bull & Eagle Rays, Eels are just some of the abundant sea life. Look out for plentiful Nudibranchs and elusive sea spiders.
