Servicing

    • Australian Standards state all cylinders used for Scuba Diving must be tested every year.

Shellharbour Scuba Centre is a standards approved testing facility which allows us to test your cylinder on site and not have to send it away for someone else to do it.

In December 2006 a Certificate of recognition by Australian Standards for 20 years of cylinder testing

Please note that we will not fill any cylinders out of their test date but don't despair, we have a large number of cylinders available for hire at nominal rates + if a technician is available, we can test your cylinder whilst you dive and have it ready for collection later that day.

  • Australian Standards further that some Aluminium cylinders require an additional test to detect flaws not able to be seen with the naked eye. We perform this 'Eddy' test with our Visual Plus equipment as part of your annual inspection.
  • Shellharbour Scuba Centre have experienced technicians, qualified to service all brands of regulators.

We carry a large stock of parts and are normally able to complete your servicing requirements within a couple of days.  Warranty servicing is no problem with all manufacturers recognising our servicing.

In the unusual event of parts not being available and a delay returning your goods, we will provide you with a similar quality product for your immediate use.

  •

All equipment brought to Shellharbour Scuba Centre is pre tested, disassembled, thoroughly examined, cleaned and serviced strictly to manufacture’s standards as per up-dated factory issued technical publications.

Where required, all parts are replaced with genuine quality parts, supplied by the manufacturer and in most cases, shipped to this facility in specific service kits.

Although some replaced parts may not appear to be damaged or worn, you can be assured that the manufacturer considers these particular parts, as "mandatory replacement parts regardless of condition".   For example:   O-rings can harden and crack over a period of time, springs can lose their resistance and diaphragms can perish.

It is recommended that SCUBA related equipment be serviced at least every twelve months whether it has been used or not  however, constant use may render the equipment prematurely unsafe therefore an earlier service may be required.  If in doubt, refer to your equipment manufacturer’s information documents or contact us.

?? NEVER ATTEMPT TO SERVICE, DISMANTLE OR RE-ADJUST SCUBA EQUIPMENT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE PROPER TRAINING !!!

Your equipment service comes complete with a 3-month warranty; if you are not satisfied with the service of your equipment please return it to this facility immediately.

Regulators        Ensure dust cap is dry and firmly in place before soaking regulators to soften dried salt particles.  Do not push purge buttons whilst rinsing as water can enter and travel back to the first stage causing damage.  Pay attention to everything that swivels. Check compass bezel for sand particles.  Pull back hose protectors and inspect for bulges tears or abrasions and corrosion of metal parts and to allow drying. Rinse under warm medium running water, (not hot) allowing water to enter the mouth pieces.

BCD    Soak both inside and outside.  Gently quarter fill the bladder with fresh warm water, inflate and swill it round before emptying through all dump valves.  To dry your BCD, inflate slightly and hang on a plastic/wooden hanger out of direct sun light.

Tanks     Never leave completely empty with valve open.  Rinse off paying particular attention to tank valve and under tank boot.  Finish off by opening valve with a short blast to clear out any water.

Wet Suits/Booties/Gloves      We strongly recommend the use of a conditioning wash that is anti-bacterial & deoderises.  These washes will help to preserve, maintain suppleness, help prevent fading and prolong the life of your gear.

Finally    All equipment should really be Soaked, Soaped, Brushed and Rinsed and where possible should be kept out of the sun to prevent UV damage.  If equipment is to be left assembled for periods of time as on dive vessels, ensure you rinse down with fresh water during the day and particularly before retiring for the evening.  Do not hang equipment on metal hangers or drape over wire clotheslines - use purpose made hangers (available here) as this will put less tension on stitching and maintain shape.  Store all equipment in a dry place.
