Squid is rarely found far from shelter, even when they are out hunting at first and last light.

Areas which squid find attractive are naturally occurring formations like small patches of reef, mussel beds, sea grass meadows, and kelp beds. Squid are also attracted to man-made structures like rock walls, jetty pylons, mussel leases, and boat moorings.
